Not too long ago I received an email from Living Social for a boudoir photo shoot with Dekker Photography. It was an awesome deal – an hour worth of hair and makeup done by Erendira and an hour long photo shoot. Seizing the opportunity to have fun, I bought the deal.
Although Dekker Photography works on all sorts of occasions (weddings, family portraits, etc), they also offer boudoir photo shoots. Why would anyone want to get pictures of themselves half-naked? It’s liberating. Not to mention the proof you will have when you show your grandkids how spontaneous you used to be. Ladies, if you never had a boudoir photo shoot – I strongly encourage you to do it.
On my way to the appointment, I could feel the excitement and giddiness inside of me. Arriving to the building in SoMA, I get buzzed in and I walk up the steep flight of stairs. I enter the door and find myself pleasantly greeted by the assistant. She immediately asks me to have a seat and offers snacks and drinks that are laid on the table in front of me. I make myself comfortable as I watch the makeup artist beautify the person ahead of me and I could hear the giggles of another client being photographed behind the screen. Patiently waiting, I peruse the books on the coffee table. Not too much time passes before the makeup artist invites me to her chair. ”My name is Erendira, but you can call me ‘Ella’”. She’s friendly and between her sniffles I could tell that she’s under the weather. ”What did you bring with you? What colors will you be wearing? Is there a look you’re going for?” Ella asks me. I reply describing the colors and outfits I brought and tell her that I want to be “glamoured out”. We get to know one another over the hour that passes while she’s painting my face and styling my hair. As I’m almost done being dolled up, Beth comes over and introduces herself as my photographer and asks to look at the outfits I brought. She goes through and decides on 4 outfits and I’m ready to go….. As we begin the shoot she asks me, “Are you nervous?” I smile and reply, “Uh yeah. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do!” She advises me to take a deep breath, relax and have fun. And for the next hour – that’s exactly what I do.

Beth is a natural at making me feel comfortable. She guides me to move my body to pose for each shot and compliments me when I think I’m being silly. At the end of the photo shoot, I feel great. Before I leave Beth lays out the timeline of when my pictures will be ready and schedules time for me to come in and view them.
The service I had with Dekker Photography was wonderful. From the initial appointment to the actual photo shoot and the attention afterwards was very professional. I have to admit, I’m not incredibly savvy with photography, but I’m satisfied with the outcome of the shoot. I’m really not too keen of the way I look in them, but hey – we’re all our own worst critics, right?

Hi, can I ask whether you received a DVD of the pictures after your photoshoot? Thanks!

Hi Val, they gave me a CD of my photos but they’re not print quality (because I didn’t pay for that package). I received my CD about two weeks after my photo shoot.
